Mask Rash... It really is a thing!

How to battle mask irritation in 3 simple steps

Wearing a face covering is the new norm and although it is essential for keeping ourselves and others protected from the virus, mask irritation is a thing. So what can we do?

1. Cleanse your face!

Once you remove your mask, it is essential that you wash and cleanse your face to remove any sweat that was building up inside there. And for those that are full glam underneath their mask, not only may your makeup smudge (unless your setting spray gotchu) but you are clogging up your pores from the sweat that is accumulating on top of your foundation throughout the day.

2. You better moisturise!

A good face-covering is tight enough to secure in place without falling down but not tight that is digs into your skin causing friction. Constant friction and rubbing will make your skin sore and bruised. Make sure you are applying a facial moisturiser that has skin barrier ingredients, such as Cetaphil or La Roche-Posay. Trust me, your skin will thank you.

And lastly, this one goes without saying and is an absolute must!

3. Wash your mask!

If your mask is made from fabric such as cotton or you are wearing a face scarf you must wash your mask at 60 degrees to kill bacteria. (The blue surgical masks that are disposable cannot be washed and must be thrown away). This is important as sweat and dirt that has been accumulated on the inside will just build up and may cause your skin to break out.
